With the recent launch of the ADV 160, we accidentally spent a bit of time on Honda’s Indonesia website. While we were overstaying, we couldn’t help but browse through the new Scoopy, a dearly missed nameplate here in our market.
We know for a fact that a lot of Filipinos would still rather have this than the Genio. If you ask us, we wouldn’t mind having both of them available here if it were possible, seeing as fuel prices don’t look like they’re bound to go down anytime soon.

The Scoopy has a very small footprint which makes it a very ideal urban commuter, and it has a very frugal 109.5cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine. The latter generates 8.85hp at 7,500rpm and 9.3Nm of torque at 5,500rpm and is capable of achieving up to 59km/L. That’s music to anyone’s ears.

Of course, its style is also still undeniably one of its biggest assets. When it was launched a couple of years back, the Scoopy debuted with its patented retro styling. A round LED headlamp, er, headlines the front clip, and this is flanked by signal lamps that are now mounted onto the front fairing instead of on the handlebar. This design is also mirrored on the rear end. The round trim shielding the instrument cluster has also been reworked and now has a more streamlined design.
The Scoopy still retains its overall shape from front to rear, but it does boast new amenities like a built-in USB charging socket and a smart key system. The new instrument cluster looks darn good, too, aside from the fact that it now has a clearer display and provides more information than ever.

There are also a lot of color options to choose from in Indonesia. You can get the Scoopy in sleek colorways or spec it with quirky finishes with funky decals. Still no ABS for this bike, but it does get a combi-brake system.
So, do you think it’s high time for Honda Philippines to bring back the Scoopy? We reckon if the company intends to bring in the ADV 160—which we think it does—it should consider bringing the Scoopy along.
